37 Demo
In 37 Demo, I had to make a memo that discussed client demographics for a company. In order for me to complete this assignment, I had to use my previous fomatting skills to set up the memo as well as insert and arrange tables. In order to arrange the tables I had to use many tools including changing the design, merging cells, shading cells, adjusting the length and widths of columns and rows, and alligning text. During the assignment I further learned and accomplish how to format tables. One skill in particular that I learned was how to shade the cells. This was something that I had previously not used. Shading was used to distinguish between different rows of the table. I also further strengthened my ability to allign the different texts within the table, such as alligning texts to the bottom right of the cell, to the top left of the cell ect. Merging the cells, adjusting the length and widths of the columns and rows, as well as using proper formatting skills were aspects of the assignment that I though I did well with. This is because I have had a lot of previous practice in these areas. It was easy for me to use these skills to complete this assignment. I knew which buttons I had to press in order to accomplish those tasks, such as merging the cell and adjusting the measurements of the table. One thing in this assignment that I would have done differently, if given the chance, would be to change the overrall design of the table. I would have chosen a design that had more color and definition to it. This way the shading would not be grey, but a different color. This would have made the tables more interesting to look at and less bland.
53 Voyager
For this assignment, I had to create a three column newsletter using a template in Microsoft Publisher for Voyager Travel Adventures. To complete this assignment, I had to choose a newsletter template, pick a color scheme and font, and provide all of the information that was required in the newsletter. I also had to reorganize columns as well as insert pictures to make the newsletter visually appealing. Throughout this assignment, I learned more about the tools of Publisher. I hadn't used this program in over two years, so it took some time to relearn the features. One skill, in particular, that I learned was how to change the hyphenation of text so that a word would not be split on to two lines of text. The part of this assignment that I believe that I did well on was the designing part. I liked how we were able to choose our own page layout, colors, text, and pictures. It isn't often that I get an assignment where I can be creative. The template that I used was called fall newsletter. I chose this template because I liked the way that the title of the newsletter was vertical. The color scheme that I used was bluebird. I chose this because I liked the use of primary colors. The red, yellow, and blue really made the title and the headings stand out. I also added a few pictures so that the text and the images evened out with the white space of the page. Overall, I think the page ended up looking visually appealing. To improve my final newsletter, I would probably have added some aspect of texture, rather it be another background image or the shading and shadowing of text. This would have given the document a layered look that would have made it more interesting.
Career Project
For this assignment, I had to begin working on the career project, which is a main focus of my Microsoft Office class. For term two, I had to take an interest profiler survey to determine my top three career areas of interest. I then had to pick a total of eleven careers within those three areas of interest and research them. Some of the research questions that I had to answer included salary, education needed, and working conditions. Lastly, I had to put all of the information researched into a table. In order to complete this assignment, I had to be able to use data bases online to research specific questions about each career. I also had to be able make and design a table in Microsoft word to summarize the information researched. I had to change the colors, widths, and heights of the different cells in the table. During this project, I learned a lot about careers that I had never considered for myself before. It was interesting to line up all the careers and easily be able to compare them in different areas, such as salary, education needed, and working conditions as mentioned above. Most of the information that I found was new for me. In general, I think that I am a good online researcher. That is the part that I think I did well with during this project. It didn’t take me long to finish researching all of the eleven careers, and it actually was easy for me. One thing that I would do differently in this project would be my summarizing of the information within the table. I felt that I wrote too much in each of the blocks so it would’ve been nice to simplify it more. Other than that, I think my research was thorough and my table looked good.
Teen USA Payroll
Teen USA Payroll required me to make a spreadsheet in Microsoft
Excel to show the wages for a list of employees. To do this, I first had to copy the
basic given information off of the directions sheet, such as the person’s name,
employee number, hours worked, and hourly wage. I then had to use formulas to calculate
gross pay, federal tax, social security tax, Medicare tax, state tax, pension, and net pay. Totals for columns gross pay through net pay were then calculated. Both the gross pay and net pay columns were then shaded in a color, as well as the row of totals. Clip art was added and questions about the data were answered. There were many technology skills used to complete this assignment. In my opinions, the use of formulas was the most important skill. This was because all of the different data calculated in this assignment were based on proper use of formulas. Another important skills was being able to fill down the formulas, so that formulas didnt need to be typed more than once. This made filling in the spreadsheet much quicker. Another skill was using the sum tool to add entire columns. The last tool used was the sort filter, which allowed for all of the data to be sorted by hourly wage from largest to smallest. This assignment helped me to learn more about the real world and how pay checks work. It was interesting to calculate out all of the deductions that are made before one actually receives their paycheck. This assignment also helped me to further strengthen my abilities at using the tools of Excel. I feel like I did well overrall with all of the requirements needed to complete this assignment, especially with the use of formulas and sums. If i had the opportunity to do this assignment over, the one thing I would have changed would be the clip art I used. If given the chance, I would have chosen something more creative.
